Trauma

Mental health challenges are sometimes rooted in traumatic life experiences. Trauma is an experience or series of experiences that overwhelmed your sense of safety and impact your ability to cope, to thrive, and to move forward. From my perspective as a psychotherapist, everyone experiences trauma in their lives. Some traumas are harder to make peace with than others. Together we will build upon your resilience, strength, and perseverance to help you heal from your trauma.

I specialize in complex trauma, which is an abusive or traumatic environment that existed during childhood over a sustained period of time, often during critical and formative developmental years. This type of trauma ruptures healthy attachment and self-concept.

I have completed Level 1 training in Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST), a trauma treatment model that uses parts-work that is informed by Sensoriomotor Psychotherapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, attachment theory, neurobiology, among others. I have received training in using Internal Family Systems (IFS) to treat complex trauma. Additionally, I was originally trained in trauma-focused treatment for children through play and expressive therapies and Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model. Overall, I pull from person-in-environment, humanistic, and family systems perspectives.

Eating Disorders

Making peace with your body, with your past, and with your future, are goals I want to help you achieve. I also value providing therapy to loved ones in their journey.

I have specialized training and experience in the treatment of eating disorders to include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and other specified feeding and eating disorders. I value a Health at Every Size® framework and Intuitive Eating approach. Themes of communication, emotional connection, distress/conflict tolerance, self-compassion, self-acceptance, body-image, and shame-resilience are examples of many of the areas I find useful to address in treating eating disorders. In order to productively and safely engage in eating disorder work, I will require medical clearance from a primary care provider, regardless of your body weight or size.

Life Transitions

I work with clients, ages 12+ to navigate stages and transitions in life that may be more challenging than expected. I have experience working with emotion regulation and anger in youth affected by divorce or co-parenting, adolescent and teen challenges, family conflict, adults pursuing divorce, parenthood, adults caring for: aging parents, children with unique medical, mental health, or developmental needs, and challenges in being responsible for the care of multiple generations. I treat these concerns in individual, couples, or family therapy settings. I can also offer consultation or referral services.
